The Dove and the Crow How Your Perspective Shapes Your Reality

How to change your perspective: The Dove and the Crow

Some days feel heavier than others. The weight might not come from anything new, it’s just the accumulation of thoughts, emotions, and circumstances pressing down all at once. In those moments, how we see what we’re carrying can make all the difference. A simple image of a dove and a crow recently reminded me just how powerful our perspective really is.

Some days are just… heavy. And not always because something big happened. Sometimes it’s the quiet build-up of stress, uncertainty, or grief pressing in all at once. In those moments, learning how to change your perspective can make all the difference. The way we see what we’re carrying doesn’t erase the weight, but it can transform how we move through it.

I recently came across an image that stopped me in my tracks. It featured two birds, a dove and a crow. Simple illustration. Profound message.

Above the dove, it read:
“I know it’s heavy, but it will pass.”

Above the crow:
“I know it will pass, but it’s heavy.”

Same weight.
Same storm.
But two entirely different experiences.

The dove looks ahead, anchored in hope.
The crow looks down, consumed by the present discomfort.

And the truth is, both are valid. There is no “right” way to feel. Pain is real. Hardship is real. And sometimes, just getting through the day is an achievement on its own.

But if you can…
Be the dove.

Not because smiling through struggle makes it disappear. Not because pretending everything’s okay is a solution. But because the way we choose to interpret our circumstances influences how we move through them.

Perspective matters.

This isn’t about toxic positivity or ignoring reality. It’s about recognizing that even while carrying something heavy, you can choose how you carry it. You can decide whether the weight defines you, or whether it’s simply part of your journey.

You might still feel tired. You might still cry. You might still be waiting for something to change.

And yet, you can still say: “It will pass.”

That quiet choice, that internal shift, is what I like to call a “dove moment.” It’s not dramatic or loud. It’s not some grand epiphany. It’s just a small, powerful decision to look forward instead of down. To find possibility, even when things feel uncertain.

How to change your perspective?

If today feels heavy, give yourself permission to feel it. Don’t fight the emotion or force yourself to be okay.

But also, don’t forget that you have a say in how you carry the load.

That perspective might not remove the weight.
But it will change the experience of carrying it.

And sometimes, that’s enough to help you rise.
