As happy as an adult in a ball pit
Whoever came up with the idiom: “She’s happy as a pig in mud” might have never had the opportunity to jump into ball pits.
In my adult life, I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity twice to hop into one. Each time has been super fun and memorable. There’s something magical about embracing the childlike wonder within each of us (whether you’re 18 or 80). All my stress and worries vanished into thin air for the 15-odd minutes I spent in the ball pit. And in its place, I experienced pure joy and excitement, laughter and happiness.
However, moments before I decided to climb into the ball pit, I was just standing on the side with only a desire to get in. I didn’t want to climb in at first, as a heap of considerations was holding me back. The little voice in my head said: “Anna, you are too old for this!” I was also scared of what other people might think. And also, what will I feel about myself if I get in – what if I don’t like it.
Life’s ball pits brings joy
Finally, I gathered enough courage to get in! It was amazing! And sitting in a sea of colourful balls, I realised how getting into a ball pit can also be a powerful metaphor for taking risks in life.
We often just stand on the side of opportunity, risk or choice. We want to take it but hold ourselves back with nonsense considerations. But just as you need to jump into ball pits to experience the joy it brings, you need to say “yes” to the opportunity to experience the excitement of taking a chance.
Stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to growth and new opportunities! It also often leads to joy, laughter and happiness as you overcome your own barriers.
So, the next time you find yourself next to a ball pit – get in! Embrace the freedom and fun our inner child encourages us to experience. Let it inspire you to take leaps in other areas of your life; let the feeling of freedom inspire you to take risks and pursue your dreams with childlike enthusiasm. Take a deep breath, let yourself sink in, and remember that life is meant to be enjoyed.
Love, Anna
